MVPN Basic Training

MVPN Basic Training

It is our purpose and passion to find volunteers interested in helping Service-members, Veterans, their Family members (SVFM) to provide them with the means to be more effective at doing that. The initial entry into the Military Veteran Peer Network includes going through a short course called MVPN Basic Training.

A description of the course follows below. We’ll have free lunch and beverages, so I’ll need you to RSVP for a good headcount.

The course is a prerequisite for other free training sponsored by the Military Veteran Peer Network including the Court Mentor Training (VCAMP) in Houston and Bring Everyone in the Zone (BEITZ) Group Facilitation Course.

The intent of this basic training is to orient Peer Volunteers with the very basic fundamentals of peer support and MVPN Peer Volunteer expectations. This training also establishes a basic understanding of military service and the many challenges that Service Members, Veterans and their Families are faced with.

The topics covered are:
Fundamentals of Peer Support
Interpersonal Skills
Assessment Skills
Depression and Suicide
Addictive Behaviors
Modes of peer support
