Miles for Smiles Africa is an organization that was started by Safiya Adatia, a sophomore at Uplift North Hills Preparatory. After visiting the New Dawn Education Centre, a non government-supported school in the slums of Nairobi, Kenya this past summer, she learned that families of children who attend this school make less than $2 per day, making it extremely difficult for them to obtain basic necessities such as food, clean water, and shelter. Due to these difficult living standards, children are forced to drop out of school. Within the past three years, drop-out rates have increased by 40%.
Tuition is $680 per year which includes two meals each day and uniforms. By attending the Miles for Smiles Africa Walk/Run, you can help achieve our goal of raising $10,000 to send 15 students to school for this upcoming year.
Join us in a fun-filled day with activities such as face-painting, performances, food, and the chance to win a 5K (prizes will be announced later) while supporting the students in the slums of Nairobi, Kenya. For more information, please visit the Instagram and Facebook pages @milesforsmilesafrica
